Q, Do I need an existing chimney to have a stove installed?
No. A chimney can be constructed using either a stainless steel flue system either internally or externally. There are also other methods of constructing new chimney systems including pumice stone.

Q, Can I have a wood burning stove in a smokeless zone?
Yes you can, numerous stove manufacturers now produce stoves which have been approved by DEFRA to burn wood in smokeless zones. You can find out from your local environmental health department whether your property is located in one.

Q, Is a multi fuel stove more efficient than an open fire?
Yes they are. Open fires are generally about 35% efficient, where as multi fuel stoves can be anything between 70 to 85% efficient.

Q, What size stove do I need to heat my room?
The standard house requires 1kilowatt of heat per 14 cubic metres of space. To determine the size of stove you require multiply your room length by its width in metres then multiply that by the room height. Divide the figure by 14. This figure gives you a rough estimate of the KW rating for the stove you need to heat that room.

Example:
(length x width x height ÷ 14)
5 x 8 x 4 ÷ 14 = 11kw
